About

STATEMENT
Self-taught, Benoît Singy initially developed an artistic practice alongside his work in architecture, before devoting himself entirely to painting. His work is now shown in Switzerland and internationally.
His research first took the form of installations and interventions, shaped by the tensions of the contemporary world — war, consumerism, climate breakdown — as well as the ambiguities of the discourses that accompany and obscure them. These outward-facing forms gradually gave way to a more inward shift. Confronted with the saturation of narratives, a need emerged for a more essential mode of creation — one in which the image would no longer be solely critical, but also a space for intimate exploration. Painting then opened as a threshold: a passage toward something more fragile, which might be called, for lack of a better word, a form of the sacred.
His work holds itself within this tension: between a sharp awareness of contemporary stakes and a search for depth, silence and presence. Through a process of layering, erasure and reworking, he enters into dialogue with matter itself, allowing unstable forms to emerge at the edge of the visible. His approach favours accident, slowness and the resistance of materials — in opposition to the prevailing logics of control and optimisation. Painting thus becomes a site of tension between construction and abandonment, where traces — at once physical and perceptual — are allowed to settle.
Each canvas attempts to open zones of resonance, to bring a sensory density to the surface where the gaze may linger, waver, and find a kind of echo.
